About
I have spent my career in California family courts, on more than a thousand divorce and custody matters, and I still handle every case myself.
I was admitted to UCLA School of Law at nineteen after finishing a political science degree at UC Berkeley in two years, and later completed a Master of Management Studies at Duke's Fuqua School of Business. The business training turned out to matter more than I expected: family law is largely about valuing things, reading financial statements, and negotiating under pressure.
I am certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Certification requires a specialist examination, years of substantial family law practice, continuing education beyond the general requirement, and evaluation by judges and attorneys who have seen the applicant's work.
Small by design. I don't employ associates or paralegals, which means the person who hears your story at the consultation is the person who drafts your declaration and argues your hearing. Clients get my cell number and a clear picture of what their case is costing and why.
I appear regularly in the San Francisco and San Mateo County family courts and take matters in neighboring counties when the case calls for it. I also work alongside other family law attorneys as co-counsel on complex financial issues, custody evaluations and trial.
I write about family law practice, build software for lawyers, and spend more time than I should thinking about how to make divorce less destructive for the people going through it.
Most people call after something has already gone wrong. The better time is before. Tell me where things stand and I'll tell you what I would do first.
